Police Identify Man Fatally Stabbed at Goose Hollow MAX Station in Portland

PORTLAND Ore. (KPTV) – Authorities have now identified the individual who was tragically stabbed at a Goose Hollow MAX station on Sunday evening as Juan Francisco Orellana-Gavarrete, a 23-year-old male.

The incident, which occurred on TriMet property, prompted an immediate response from emergency responders at approximately 6:30 p.m. after receiving reports of an altercation involving a weapon. Upon arrival, officers discovered Orellana-Gavarrete with a severe stab wound and provided him with immediate medical assistance until paramedics arrived.

Despite the diligent efforts of medical professionals, Orellana-Gavarrete succumbed to his injuries at a nearby hospital.

The Portland Police Bureau (PPB) has revealed that a fight between Orellana-Gavarrete and Edel Cruz-Aragon had taken place prior to the stabbing incident, either on or near the Providence Park MAX station. Following the altercation, Orellana-Gavarrete boarded the train and disembarked at the Goose Hollow station, where he was met by officers and other first responders.

Law enforcement officials have since identified the suspect involved in the incident as 22-year-old Edel Cruz-Aragon. On Tuesday, Cruz-Aragon was apprehended by authorities at the intersection of Southwest 9th Avenue and Southwest Oak Street.

Cruz-Aragon has since been taken into custody and is now being held at the Multnomah County Detention Center. He is facing charges of Second-Degree Murder and Unlawful Use of a Weapon.
