Police Identify Suspect in Santa Maria Homicide Case
In a recent development, the Santa Maria Police Department has identified the suspect involved in a domestic homicide that occurred just days before Christmas. The 60-year-old suspect has been identified as Anthony Kevin Larks, a resident of Santa Maria.
The incident took place at a residence on Dolcetto Lane in the Lavigna gated community, located west of South Blosser Road. Police officers were dispatched to the scene after receiving a report of a domestic disturbance and shooting at around 6:30 a.m.
Tragically, the victim of the shooting has been identified as Johannes Katya Johnson, a 43-year-old resident of Santa Maria. Despite the efforts of emergency responders, Johnson was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to Lieutenant Daniel Rios of the Santa Maria Police Department Detective Bureau, Larks and the victim were married and living together at the time of the incident. Larks was taken into custody in connection with the fatal shooting and is currently being held at the county’s Northern Branch Jail. His bail has been set at $2 million.
The case has been handed over to the Santa Barbara County District Attorney’s Office for further review and potential filing of criminal charges. This tragic incident marks the sixth homicide in Santa Maria in 2023, and the third in the month of December alone. The local community is left grieving as authorities continue their investigation to uncover the motive behind this shocking crime.
