Henderson, Kentucky: Mount Vernon Man Arrested After Christmas Morning Police Chase
A man from Mount Vernon, Illinois, has been apprehended following a police chase that took place in the early hours of Christmas morning. The incident unfolded when a patrol officer from Mount Vernon witnessed a man firing a gun at another individual in the 300 block of South Ninth Street. The officer immediately approached the suspect, identified as 20-year-old Maliq Petties. However, Petties refused to comply with the officer’s commands and fled the scene in a vehicle.

Local radio station WMIX reported that officers chased Petties through Mount Vernon and onto I-57, with speeds reaching up to 100 miles per hour. During the pursuit, Petties crashed into a Mount Vernon squad car before abandoning his vehicle and attempting to escape on foot.
Amidst the chaos, the pursuing officer fired a shot in Petties’ direction, which fortunately missed its target. Eventually, officers successfully apprehended Petties and promptly transported him to the Jefferson County Jail.
The initial shooting victim, as well as two officers involved in the chase, were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Thankfully, their injuries were determined to be non-life threatening.
