Tragic Accident Claims Life of Founding Member of The Chicks in West Texas Collision

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — A devastating head-on collision on Friday night, December 22, along U.S. Highway 62 in Hudspeth County, Texas, resulted in the tragic death of 65-year-old Laura Caroline Lynch, a founding member of the renowned musical group, The Dixie Chicks. The accident also left another individual injured.

Laura Caroline Lynch, hailing from Fort Worth, Texas, was identified as the victim by the Texas Department of Public Safety. This heart-wrenching incident has attracted widespread attention, with major media outlets such as USA Today, The New York Post, CBS Network, and TMZ reporting on the untimely demise of Lynch, highlighting her significant contributions to The Dixie Chicks. It is worth noting that the band has subsequently been rebranded as The Chicks.

The fatal collision occurred at approximately 5:45 p.m., around 25 miles west of Dell City and 8 miles west of Cornudas, as confirmed by the Texas Department of Public Safety. According to their investigation, a pickup truck, traveling westbound on U.S. 62, attempted to overtake another vehicle on a two-way undivided section of the highway. Unfortunately, this maneuver resulted in a catastrophic head-on crash with the pickup truck driven by Laura Caroline Lynch.

Tragically, Lynch was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. The driver of the first vehicle involved in the collision, whose identity has not been disclosed by the Texas Department of Public Safety, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was rushed to an El Paso hospital after their vehicle caught fire.

The severity of the collision necessitated the closure of the highway until approximately 1 a.m. on Saturday, December 23, causing significant disruption to traffic flow in the area.
