Woman Burnt to Death for Alleged Witchcraft in Assam’s Sonitpur District

A horrifying incident took place in Assam’s Sonitpur district, where a 30-year-old woman became a victim of a brutal
attack and was burnt to death on allegations of practicing witchcraft. The incident, which has shocked the local
community, has led to the arrest of four individuals, while two others involved in the crime are currently on
the run. Authorities have initiated a search operation to apprehend the fugitives, as reported by Additional
Superintendent of Police, Madhurima Das.

The victim, identified as Sangita Kati, was targeted by her neighbor, Suraj Baghwar, who had brought in individuals
from outside their Nij Bahbari village. It is alleged that the assailants, under the influence of alcohol, tied
up Sangita’s husband before setting her on fire.

Local sources suggest that the accused and the victim’s family had been embroiled in a long-standing dispute over
various issues. Suraj Baghwar, in particular, had accused Sangita of engaging in witchcraft, which further
escalated tensions between the parties involved. This tragic incident has left the entire community in shock and
mourning.

Following the heinous crime, the police swiftly took action and apprehended four individuals involved in the
attack. However, two others managed to evade capture and are currently on the run. In order to bring them to
