Man Cited for Drug Trafficking in Williamson County After Discovery of Nearly 600 Xanax Pills
JOHNSON CITY, Ill. (KFVS) – A man was charged with drug trafficking in Williamson County after law enforcement officials found him in possession of approximately 600 pills of Xanax.

In the early hours of December 13, Deputies from the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop near Interstate 57 and Herrin Road, in rural Johnston City, after observing a vehicle commit multiple traffic violations.
Upon interacting with the occupants of the vehicle, Deputies noticed inconsistencies in their travel details. Both individuals appeared visibly nervous, and the smell of cannabis emanated from the vehicle, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
One of the occupants, identified as Warren J. Mangum, was found to have an outstanding arrest warrant and was subsequently taken into custody by the Deputies. However, during the process of escorting Mangum to the patrol car, the Deputies noticed that he was moving slowly and hesitantly. When questioned, Mangum denied possessing any illegal items.
In order to ensure thorough inspection, the Deputies had Mangum remove his shoes and conducted a search, but no contraband was found on his person.

Mangum was then transported to the Williamson County Jail, where jail staff utilizing a body scanner identified an anomaly on his person during the booking process.
Further search of Mangum resulted in the discovery of a large plastic bag containing white oblong pills, both inside and protruding from a body cavity. It was later determined that the concealed contraband consisted of 599 pills of Alprazolam, commonly known as “Xanax”. Alprazolam is classified as a Schedule 4 controlled substance.
As a result of the discovery, Mangum has been cited for controlled substance trafficking and possession of a controlled substance.
