Arrests Made in Connection to Chunabhatti Firing

Following the firing incident, the police have successfully apprehended four individuals believed to be part of a gang involved in the incident. The arrested individuals have been identified as Ashutosh Gawand, Sunny Patil, Naresh Patil, and Sagar Sawant, all residents of Chunabhatti. Details of the Incident Uncovered by the Police

On Sunday at approximately 3:30 pm, the Mumbai police control center received reports of the alleged firing in the Azad Galli area. Upon arriving at the scene, the police discovered numerous empty bullet casings scattered around, alongside several injured individuals. Among the victims was Pappu, also known as Sumeet Yerunkar, a notorious gangster with a long history of criminal activities. Pappu, aged 45 and a resident of Sion-Chunabhatti, had sustained gunshot wounds to his stomach and thigh. Unfortunately, despite being rushed to Sion Hospital, he could not be saved.

Gang Rivalry Blamed for the Firing Incident

According to the police investigation, the incident was fueled by an ongoing rivalry between two gangs. Pappu, along with his associates Madan Patil, Roshan Lokhande, and Aakash Khadagle, had visited a studio at Azad Galli to have banners printed for Pappu’s upcoming birthday celebration on January 2. However, upon their arrival, they found themselves face to face with the five members of a rival gang, with whom they had a longstanding enmity. The situation quickly escalated into a deadly exchange of gunfire. Tragically, all members of Pappu’s gang sustained gunshot wounds, except for Pappu himself, who tragically lost his life. The surviving members are currently receiving treatment at Sion Hospital.

Innocent Eight-Year-Old Girl Also Injured in the Incident

Among the injured victims is an eight-year-old girl named Trisha Sharma, who happened to be in the vicinity at the time of the incident. She was struck by a bullet in her left arm and is currently undergoing treatment at Sion Hospital. Notably, the deceased gangster’s brother, Swapnil, is associated with the political group BJP.

Legal Action Taken against the Accused

In response to the incident, a First Information Report (FIR) has been filed by a local resident named Vinod Vishwakarma, aged 35. The FIR charges the accused individuals under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including 302 (murder), 307 (attempt to murder), 120B (criminal conspiracy), and relevant sections of the Arms Act.
