The Richmond Police Department Investigates Shooting at Chippenham Hospital’s Mental Health Facility

The Richmond Police Department is currently conducting an investigation following a distressing incident that occurred at the mental health facility of Chippenham Hospital, where both a patient and a police officer were shot.

The incident took place on Friday, December 22nd, at approximately 4:11 a.m., prompting immediate response from law enforcement officers who were summoned to Tucker’s Pavilion at Chippenham Hospital after receiving reports of a shooting.

Upon their arrival at the scene, officers who happened to be in the vicinity, specifically in the emergency area of the hospital, discovered a male individual who had sustained gunshot wounds. Fortunately, the injuries inflicted on the victim were determined to be non-life-threatening. Subsequent investigation identified the victim as a patient who was currently receiving treatment at Chippenham Hospital.

Additionally, the suspect, a 27-year-old male resident of Glen Allen, was apprehended without resistance after voluntarily surrendering himself to the authorities. Police officers took him into custody promptly and without further incident.
