Nicholas Swisher, the suspect involved in a recent robbery case, was apprehended by the Trotwood police on December 12th. The arrest was a result of an ongoing investigation into a robbery reported in the 6900 block of West Third Street around 4:30 a.m.

During their investigation, the Trotwood police discovered that a U-Haul pickup truck, a 2023 Chevrolet Silverado, was potentially involved in the robbery. Further investigation revealed that the pickup truck had been reported stolen in Dayton. Trotwood patrol officers spotted the U-Haul pickup around 3:15 p.m. in the Townview neighborhood.

However, upon spotting the police, the driver of the U-Haul, later identified as Nicholas Swisher, immediately fled the scene, reaching speeds exceeding 80 mph in a residential area with a speed limit of 25 mph. These details were mentioned in an affidavit filed in the Montgomery County Municipal Court – Western Division in Trotwood.

A police pursuit ensued, during which the U-Haul crossed over the double yellow center line at 5350 Hoover Ave., resulting in a head-on collision with an SUV. Both vehicles spun off the road and crashed into a group of large bushes. A Trotwood Police Department crash report documented the incident.

The driver of the SUV, a 38-year-old Dayton woman, sustained serious injuries and was immediately transported to Miami Valley Hospital. Fortunately, her two passengers, girls aged 16 and 17, escaped the collision unharmed, as stated in the report.

Nicholas Swisher, who was driving with a suspended driver’s license, attempted to flee on foot but was soon apprehended by the police. He suffered minor injuries in the crash and was also taken to Miami Valley Hospital for medical treatment before being booked into the Montgomery County Jail.

The two passengers in the U-Haul, a 48-year-old Farmersville man and a 61-year-old Jefferson Twp. man, were not involved in the crimes and were subsequently released after being detained by the police.

Interestingly, the robbery and pursuit occurred on the same day when Nicholas Swisher was officially charged in the death of 61-year-old John L. Mullins of Trotwood. The victim’s body was found on September 29, 2022, near the 6500 block of Midway Avenue, which was less than a mile away from his Drexel home, as confirmed by Trotwood police last year.

According to an affidavit, it was revealed that John Mullins was believed to have been killed between September 22 and 29, 2022, at Nicholas Swisher’s residence on Lensdale Avenue in Drexel. The affidavit mentioned that Swisher lured Mullins to his house and proceeded to physically assault him by hitting, kicking, and stomping him. Swisher then bound Mullins with rope and duct tape, ultimately causing his death by beating. Afterward, he wrapped Mullins’ body, placed it in a toolbox, and disposed of it in the woods.

While the robbery case is still under investigation, anyone with information regarding the incident is encouraged to contact Trotwood police detective Anthony Page at 937-854-7237.

Currently, Nicholas Swisher is being held in the Montgomery County Jail on bail set at $1 million.
