HYDERABAD: In a significant breakthrough, the Hyderabad Cyber Crime Police apprehended an individual from Uttar Pradesh for defrauding a woman of Rs 2.20 lakh by deceitfully promising her employment. The suspect, identified as Vijaykant, aged 34, operated a bogus job call center and purportedly played a key role in an elaborate job fraud scheme.
The scam unraveled when a 34-year-old homemaker residing in Nampally filed a complaint regarding a fraudulent job offer at the Airport Authority of India. She alleged that the scammers coerced her into transferring a sum of Rs 2.20 lakh as registration fees, uniform expenses, account opening charges, and to obtain an offer letter. However, after the transaction, the fraudsters ceased all communication with her, leaving her stranded and financially distraught.
According to the police, the accused meticulously extracted contact information from legitimate job portals and shared these details with telecallers, instructing them to approach unsuspecting victims with enticing job opportunities. Once the victims expressed interest, the fraudster personally contacted them, conducted sham interviews, and even dispatched counterfeit offer letters to gain their trust, the police revealed.
This arrest has shed light on the extent of this job scam, emphasizing the need for individuals to remain vigilant when pursuing employment opportunities. The Cyber Crime Police have issued a warning to job seekers, advising them to exercise caution and verify the authenticity of any job offers they receive to avoid falling victim to such scams.
