PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – The Pennsylvania State Police are currently conducting an investigation into a tragic crash that occurred on Interstate 376 in the early hours of Monday morning.
The fatal accident took place at approximately 1 a.m. near mile marker 78 and involved three separate vehicles, according to a press release issued by Trooper Rocco S. Gagliardi.
The incident unfolded when a car overturned and became disabled in the left lane of the interstate. The driver of the overturned vehicle then exited the car and sought assistance from two individuals who had stopped to help.
As another car approached the scene, it attempted to navigate a right curve just before reaching the overturned vehicle. Despite its efforts to avoid a collision, the driver of the second car was unable to do so in time and struck the overturned vehicle. The impact also caused the second car to collide with the guardrail and ultimately hit the driver of the overturned car, as well as one of the Good Samaritans providing aid, and the rear of the Good Samaritans’ car.

The driver of the overturned car, identified as 24-year-old Dax Antonio Hernandez-Reyes, was rushed to UMPC Mercy where he was later pronounced dead by medical staff.
All other occupants involved in the crash were hospitalized for their injuries. However, no further details regarding their conditions have been released. The investigation into the incident is still ongoing, and the Pennsylvania State Police are working diligently to gather all necessary information.
