Senior Citizen Dies and Over 130 Hospitalized After Consuming Temple Prasadam in Bengaluru Rural District

A tragic incident unfolded in Bengaluru Rural district as a senior citizen passed away and more than 130 individuals were hospitalized after allegedly consuming prasadam distributed by a local temple. The victim has been identified as Siddagangamma, a resident of Kaveri Nagar.

According to a police officer, the incident occurred on the occasion of Vaikunta Ekadashi Saturday when devotees visited the Anjaneya temple. As part of the religious rituals, laddoos were distributed among the devotees. Siddagangamma’s husband, who also visited the temple, brought home some of these laddoos, which were later consumed by other family members. However, on Sunday, both Siddagangamma and her daughter complained of vomiting and dysentery. They were immediately rushed to Silicon City Hospital, where Siddagangamma tragically passed away during treatment.

As news of the incident spread, an increasing number of devotees who had visited the temple started experiencing discomfort and fell ill. Consequently, they were admitted to various hospitals in Bengaluru city for medical assistance.

While investigating the matter, a senior police officer revealed that many individuals who had consumed the prasadam have been hospitalized. However, authorities are also exploring other possible causes as a few individuals who did not consume the prasadam also fell ill.

Authorities have determined that the laddoos distributed at the temple were one day old. Nevertheless, it remains unclear whether they were the source of the food poisoning. Health officials are also examining the possibility of contaminated water being the cause of this mass food poisoning incident.

In response to the incident, Hoskote MLA Sharath Bache Gowda visited the temple on Monday to assess the situation. He later met with the family members of the affected patients, offering condolences and support.
