Alleged Ringleader of Robbery Gang Arrested in Mumbai
Mumbai police have recently filed a chargesheet in the case of the brutal murder of a 69-year-old resident, Surekha Agarwal, in her Tardeo flat in August. The chargesheet names Surendra Singh Jhala, also known as Sanju, as the alleged ringleader of the gang responsible for the crime. According to the police, Jhala had initially chosen two men from Mumbai to carry out the heist, but they backed out at the last minute.

The two men, whose statements have been included in the chargesheet as witnesses, refused to participate in the robbery, leading Jhala to assemble a different team, referred to as “team B,” to carry out the crime. The police have cited a total of 22 witnesses in the chargesheet.
The incident took place on August 13 when three robbers forcibly entered the flat of Surekha and her husband, Madan Mohan Agarwal. Madan was about to go for his morning walk when the robbers pushed him back into the flat and locked the door. They then tied up the couple’s hands and legs and taped their mouths. After approximately 50 minutes, the robbers fled the scene. Madan managed to seek help from their neighbors, but unfortunately, Surekha was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.
The investigation led to the arrest of Sumeet Tatwal, a relative of Surekha’s daughter-in-law, who had recently moved from Rajasthan to Mumbai and secured a job at the Agarwals’ imitation jewelry shop. Tatwal allegedly tipped off the gang about the valuable jewelry in the house and masterminded the heist. He also provided Jhala with information about Madan’s daily walk schedule. Jhala, in turn, conducted a reconnaissance of the area.
Tatwal’s interrogation eventually led to the arrest of Jhala and another accomplice, Raja Ram Meghwal. The third robber, Vijay Jhala, was arrested a month later. The police were able to recover gold and diamonds worth Rs 1.9 crore from the gang.

The chargesheet, which consists of 583 pages, provides a comprehensive account of the crime and the subsequent investigation. The police have gathered substantial evidence against the accused, including witness statements and recovered stolen items.
