Tragic Incident at Bankerohan Public Market in Davao City Leaves Two Dead

MANILA, Philippines — In a shocking turn of events, a military truck crashed into parked vehicles at the bustling Bankerohan Public Market in Davao City yesterday morning, resulting in the tragic loss of two lives.

The unfortunate incident occurred at around 5:30 a.m. when a KM450 truck, assigned to the Army-led Task Force Davao and driven by PFC Patrick Saguin Trumata, was parked near the market with its engine running.

According to reports, Trumata had momentarily stepped away from the vehicle to relieve himself. Seizing this opportunity, a man identified as 44-year-old Crenenandy Cadiente allegedly entered the driver’s seat and started driving the truck, ultimately colliding with innocent bystanders who were waiting for a jeepney ride.

The victims were identified as Jamie Lopez Cole, a 63-year-old resident of Km10 Buhangin District, Cabantian, Davao City, and Rocel Luna Haspe, a 34-year-old resident of Barangay Maa, also in Davao City.

The San Pedro police station reported that the suspect, a resident of Barangay Bucana, drove the truck recklessly, causing it to collide with a Yamaha Aerox motorcycle, a Mitsubishi Xpander, and a delivery van.

Emergency responders rushed three other injured individuals to the Southern Philippines Medical Center for immediate medical attention. The injured victims were identified as Teresita Pilapil Tangaro, a 45-year-old resident of Piapi Boulevard; Michael Maghuyop, a 44-year-old resident of Berhen sa Lourdes in Barangay Mandug; and Mae Antoneth Anticamara, a 20-year-old resident of Barangay 76-A Bucana.

The suspect, Cadiente, who is believed to be struggling with mental health issues, was promptly apprehended following the incident and is currently under police custody.
