Police Confirm Relationship Between Two Men Involved in Shooting Incident
Taunton police have apprehended a suspect in connection with an armed home invasion that resulted in a shooting. According to a statement from Chief Edward J. Walsh, Joshua Manuel Deleon, a 22-year-old man from New Bedford, has been arrested and is facing multiple charges, including assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, armed assault with intent to murder, and possession of a firearm with a defaced serial number.
The incident occurred on Friday at around 10 p.m. when authorities received a distress call from a residence on Newcomb Place. Upon arrival, police were informed of an ongoing disturbance involving a firearm. Backup units were immediately dispatched to the scene.
Upon entering the second-floor apartment, officers found two men engaged in a physical altercation. Concerned for their safety and the safety of others due to reports of a firearm, the officers drew their weapons and ordered the men to stop fighting. Both men complied, and it was discovered that one of them had sustained a gunshot wound to the leg. The injured suspect, identified as Deleon, was found to be wearing body armor and was also suffering from head trauma and other injuries.
During the investigation, the police discovered additional firearms and bullet casings. Authorities believe that shots may have been fired into an apartment on the third floor during the struggle. Fortunately, the resident and her four children inside the apartment were unharmed but left frightened.

Deleon and the other male victim were transported to separate hospitals for medical treatment. Deleon, in police custody, was flown by medical helicopter to a Boston hospital due to the seriousness of his injuries. The other victim is expected to recover.
Police have determined that the two men involved in the incident are known to each other, and this was not a random act of violence. It is believed that the conflict originated in a different community and spilled over to Taunton.
The Taunton Fire Department provided emergency medical services at the scene.
