A Leesburg man, Anthony Stephon Calloway, was recently arrested following a road rage incident where he shot out a driver’s back tire. The incident occurred near 819 South Lone Oak Drive in Leesburg, according to a report from the Leesburg Police Department.

Altercation on the Road

The victim, who was traveling east on Center Street, noticed Calloway closely tailgating his vehicle. Concerned for his safety, the victim pulled over to let Calloway pass. However, Calloway continued following the victim’s vehicle and began brake-checking him. The situation escalated when Calloway pulled off the road in front of the Cypress Oaks apartment complex and approached the victim, leading to a verbal confrontation.

Threats and Aggression

During the confrontation, the victim recorded the incident on his iPhone while arguing with Calloway. Shockingly, Calloway brandished a firearm and threatened to harm the victim. Despite the victim’s continued arguing, Calloway discharged a single shot, which hit the victim’s rear passenger tire, causing it to deflate.

Police Investigation

Law enforcement officers arrived at the scene and interviewed the victim, who provided a sworn statement and the video recording as evidence. Officers then located Calloway’s vehicle parked in a handicap spot in front of a building within the Cypress Oaks apartment complex. The vehicle was still warm to the touch, indicating recent use.

Arrest and Confession

Further investigation revealed Calloway’s involvement in the incident. The officers attempted to make contact with him at his listed address but were unsuccessful. However, Calloway later called the Leesburg Police Department and was connected to the on-scene officers. During the conversation, Calloway admitted to feeling threatened and claimed to have discharged the firearm as a warning, shooting at the ground.

Prior Criminal History

Background checks on Calloway revealed a criminal history, including previous convictions for cocaine possession and leaving the scene of a crash with injury. As a convicted felon, Calloway faced additional charges for possessing a firearm and ammunition.

Arrest and Release

Anthony Stephon Calloway was subsequently arrested on charges of shooting or throwing a deadly missile into an occupied vehicle and possession of a firearm or ammunition by a convicted felon. He was taken to the Lake County Jail but was later released after posting a $20,000 bond.
