26-Year-Old Woman Chained, Slit, and Set on Fire in a Gruesome Incident

In a horrifying incident that sent shockwaves through Chennai, a 26-year-old woman named Nandhini was subjected to unspeakable acts of cruelty. She was chained, her wrists and feet slit, and then set on fire alive in an open field near Navalur on the evening of December 23. This heinous crime took place within the jurisdiction of the Thazhambur police station, leaving the community in disbelief.

The perpetrator of this gruesome act, identified as Vetrimaaran, a 28-year-old trans man, has been arrested by the police. Vetrimaaran allegedly confessed to the crime, leading to his booking under section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code. According to Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) V Venkatesan, who oversees the Kelambakkam area, Nandhini and Vetrimaaran had known each other since childhood. They were both employed at the same software company, but as time went on, Nandhini distanced herself from Vetrimaaran. Adding to this, she became involved in a romantic relationship with a colleague who disapproved of her friendship with Vetrimaaran, citing his possessiveness.

Tragically, Nandhini suffered deep cuts on her wrists and feet, inflicted by a sharp blade. She was then cruelly chained up and set on fire in an open field. A passerby noticed the flames and rushed to investigate, discovering Nandhini writhing in agony. Acting swiftly, the passerby extinguished the flames and immediately contacted the 108 ambulance service for medical assistance.

Before losing consciousness, Nandhini managed to provide the passerby with Vetrimaaran’s phone number. The police attempted to reach him, and initially, he claimed to be elsewhere. However, Vetrimaaran suddenly appeared at the scene a few minutes later. He accompanied Nandhini in the ambulance as she was rushed to Chrompet General Hospital for urgent medical attention. Sadly, despite the efforts of medical professionals, Nandhini succumbed to her injuries and tragically lost her life.
