65-Year-Old Founding Member of The Dixie Chicks killed in Tragic Car Crash
EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — A 65-year-old woman from Fort Worth who is being identified as a founding member of The Dixie Chicks was killed and another person was injured in a devastating head-on collision on Friday night, December 22nd along U.S. Highway 62 in Hudspeth County.
The woman has been identified as Laura Caroline Lynch by the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS). Multiple reputable national media sources, including USA Today, The New York Post, CBS Network, and TMZ, have confirmed that Lynch was a founding member of the iconic musical group, The Dixie Chicks, and tragically lost her life in the crash outside of El Paso. It is worth noting that the band has since been renamed The Chicks.
The fatal accident occurred at approximately 5:45 p.m., around 25 miles west of Dell City and 8 miles west of Cornudas, according to the DPS.
Based on the preliminary investigation conducted by the Texas Department of Public Safety, a pickup truck traveling westbound on U.S. Highway 62 attempted to overtake another vehicle along a two-way undivided portion of the highway. Tragically, the pickup truck collided head-on with the vehicle driven by Laura Caroline Lynch, a 65-year-old resident of Fort Worth.
Laura Caroline Lynch was pronounced dead at the scene. The other driver’s vehicle caught fire during the collision, and they were subsequently transported to an El Paso hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The identity of the driver of the first vehicle involved in the crash has not been disclosed by the DPS.
In the aftermath of the accident, the highway remained closed until approximately 1 a.m. on Saturday, December 23rd, causing significant disruption to traffic in the area.
The crash is still under investigation, and no further details have been released at this time.
