EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — A devastating head-on collision on Friday night, Dec. 22, along U.S. Highway 62 in Hudspeth County claimed the life of Laura Caroline Lynch, a 65-year-old woman hailing from Fort Worth. Lynch, a well-respected founding member of The Dixie Chicks, tragically lost her life in the accident, while another individual sustained injuries.

The Texas Department of Public Safety has officially identified Laura Caroline Lynch as the victim of the fatal crash. National media outlets such as USA Today, The New York Post, and CBS Network have extensively covered the incident, highlighting Lynch’s significant contributions to The Dixie Chicks. TMZ, a popular entertainment news outlet, has also confirmed that Lynch, one of the band’s founding members, was involved in the tragic collision.

Details of the Tragic Accident

The fatal crash occurred at approximately 5:45 p.m., approximately 25 miles west of Dell City and 8 miles west of Cornudas, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS).

According to DPS, the sequence of events leading to the collision unfolded when a pickup truck traveling westbound on U.S. 62 attempted to overtake another vehicle on a two-way undivided stretch of the highway. Tragically, this pickup truck collided head-on with the vehicle driven by Laura Caroline Lynch, a 65-year-old resident of Fort Worth and founding member of The Dixie Chicks.

Regrettably, Lynch was pronounced dead at the scene, while the pickup truck driver who initiated the collision suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Emergency services rushed the injured individual to an El Paso hospital for immediate medical attention. The DPS has chosen not to disclose the identity of the driver of the initial pickup truck involved in the collision.

Temporary Closure and Ongoing Investigation

The severity of the crash forced authorities to close the affected portion of the highway until approximately 1 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 23, causing disruption and inconvenience for other road users.
