EAST ST. LOUIS – The Illinois State Police (ISP) Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) Public Safety Enforcement Group (PSEG) has recently made a significant arrest in connection with a murder case. Cornell L. Irving, a 35-year-old resident of St. Louis, MO, has been taken into custody for First Degree Murder, a Class M Felony.

On November 10, 2023, the Illinois State Police (ISP) PSEG was called upon by the East St. Louis Police Department to initiate a thorough investigation into a tragic incident that occurred in the 4000 block of State Street in East St. Louis.

The victim, identified as 19-year-old Trenadi Bateman from Collinsville, was found with gunshot wounds and was immediately transported to a nearby hospital. Despite efforts to save her, she was pronounced deceased.

Following an extensive investigation, the ISP PSEG agents presented the case to the St. Clair County State’s Attorney, James Gomric, on December 22, 2023. The State’s Attorney subsequently filed a First Degree Murder charge against Cornell L. Irving. As of now, Irving is being held at the East St. Louis Jail.
