In a recent operation conducted by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) in Zambales, a man suspected of posing as an NBI agent and being involved in the kidnapping of a Vietnamese national was killed. The incident was reported on GMA’s 24 Oras Weekend on Sunday.

The suspect, identified as Bryce Movilla, allegedly opened fire at NBI agents who were tailing him while he was driving a white Nissan Navarra pickup truck in Sta. Cruz, Zambales.

Jerome Bomediano, the NBI Anti-Organized and Transnational Crime Division chief, stated, “We overtook the vehicle, opened the windows, and showed identification. He then suddenly fired shots at our operatives.”

The NBI team successfully blocked Movilla’s vehicle, leading to a shootout that resulted in the suspect’s demise.

During the investigation, fake NBI identification cards, warrants of arrest, a shotgun, a .45 caliber handgun, and two .40 caliber pistols were found in the suspect’s truck. Additionally, a vehicle plate number linked to the Vietnamese national’s kidnapping was discovered.

It was revealed that the suspect had impersonated an NBI agent and presented a counterfeit warrant of arrest for a supposed kidnapping in Makati City.

CCTV footage depicted the victim being abducted from a condominium. The suspect then transported the Vietnamese man to a motel in Zambales, where he coerced the victim into writing a ransom message to secure his release.

Bomediano stated, “The Vietnamese national cooperated with us, which helped us determine his location. We also identified the suspect through the video footage.”

According to the NBI official, the suspect had established a group claiming to provide security services to Philippine Offshore Gaming Operations (POGOs). They utilized this connection to target and kidnap senior POGO executives for ransom.

This incident highlights the need for heightened vigilance and caution, particularly in verifying the identities of individuals claiming to be law enforcement agents. The NBI continues to work diligently to ensure the safety and security of all individuals in the country.
