Accident – Death – Obituary News : 
Authorities have reported that a tragic accident occurred on Route 15 in Westport, Connecticut, resulting in the death of a Bridgeport man. According to Connecticut State Police, the driver had crashed and stopped in the left lane when he got out of his car and was fatally struck by another vehicle.

The incident took place on Saturday evening when state police received a report of a one-car crash on Route 15 south, just before exit 42. Emergency responders, including troopers, a medical crew, and the fire department, quickly arrived at the scene at around 10:38 p.m.
Upon arrival, troopers discovered a 2016 Toyota Corolla stopped in the middle of two lanes and a 2021 Infiniti Q50 against the wood beam guardrail along the right shoulder. According to state police, the Corolla had been traveling south when it collided with the concrete barrier in the median for an unknown reason, coming to a stop in the left lane. At the same time, the Infiniti, also traveling south in the left lane, struck the rear end of the Corolla.
The driver of the Corolla, identified as 28-year-old Mateo Gaviria from Bridgeport, had exited his vehicle at the time of the collision and sustained serious injuries. Despite the efforts of troopers on the scene to save his life, Gaviria tragically succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
The two occupants of the Infiniti were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to state police.

Following the accident, Route 15 northbound and southbound were temporarily closed but have since reopened as of Sunday morning.
Connecticut State Police are currently investigating the incident and are urging anyone with information to contact Trooper Rodriguez #828 at Ryan.Rodriguez@ct.gov.
