Fort Worth Woman killed in Head-On Collision on US Highway 62

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — A devastating head-on collision on Friday night, Dec. 22, along U.S. Highway 62 in Hudspeth County, Texas, has claimed the life of a renowned musician and founding member of The Dixie Chicks. The accident also left another individual injured.

The Texas Department of Public Safety has identified the victim as Laura Caroline Lynch, a 65-year-old woman from Fort Worth. This tragic incident has garnered national attention, with prominent media outlets such as USA Today, The New York Post, CBS Network, and TMZ reporting on the shocking demise of Lynch, who played a pivotal role in establishing The Dixie Chicks. It is important to note that the band has since been renamed as The Chicks.

The fatal crash occurred at approximately 5:45 p.m., approximately 25 miles west of Dell City and 8 miles west of Cornudas, according to DPS officials.

Details of the Accident

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the collision transpired when a pickup truck, traveling in the westbound direction on U.S. 62, attempted to overtake another vehicle on a two-way undivided section of the highway. Tragically, the pickup truck driven by Laura Caroline Lynch collided head-on with the passing truck.

Despite the immediate response from emergency services, Lynch was pronounced dead at the scene. The other driver’s vehicle burst into flames upon impact, resulting in non-life-threatening injuries.
