Chennai: Man Arrested for Smoking on Indigo Airlines Flight

Chennai, UK – In a recent incident, a 35-year-old man named Mohamed Salim was arrested by the Chennai airport police for smoking a cigarette inside an Indigo Airlines flight. The incident took place during a flight from Muscat to Chennai and has raised concerns about passenger safety and in-flight disturbances.

According to DT Next reports, Salim discreetly pulled out a cigarette from his clothing and began smoking, despite it being strictly prohibited. This reckless act occurred in front of 168 passengers, who were shocked and concerned by his behavior.

Despite protests from fellow passengers and air hostesses, Salim remained unresponsive and even engaged in a verbal altercation. Worried about the unruly behavior, co-passengers alerted the pilot, leading to the Chennai airport control room being notified.

Upon landing at Chennai airport at 8 am, security officials promptly detained Salim. During the interrogation, Salim claimed to be a chain smoker and asserted that he could not abstain from smoking. However, his explanation did not prevent the Chennai airport police from arresting him. Further inquiries are currently underway to determine the appropriate legal action to be taken against Salim.

Meanwhile, in an effort to enhance passenger convenience, Air India Express flights have recently started operating from the second domestic terminal at Chennai airport. This decision was made to alleviate congestion in the T1 terminal, as Chennai airport is one of the busiest in India, handling an average of 400 flights daily and serving approximately 60,000 passengers.

The move to shift operations of Air India flights from the T4 terminal and Vistara Airlines’ upcoming shift to T4 from Wednesday aims to streamline airport operations and improve overall efficiency. However, incidents like Salim’s in-flight smoking highlight the challenges faced in maintaining order and ensuring a safe and pleasant travel experience for all passengers.
