An unexpected and tragic incident occurred at Rosie O’Reilly’s, a bar located in unincorporated Wheaton, resulting in a murder. A heated argument over a bar tab and a pizza escalated to a violent altercation, leading to the loss of a life. The DuPage County Sheriff’s Office reported that a man from Aurora, in his late 40s, knocked down another man during the dispute.

The accused, identified as Michael Freund, a 49-year-old resident of Aurora, has been charged with first-degree murder. The incident took place at Rosie O’Reilly’s bar, highlighting the unfortunate consequences that can arise from seemingly trivial arguments.

The shooting occurred at approximately 8:40 am on Gary Avenue in unincorporated Wheaton, according to the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office. The incident shocked the local community and raised concerns about the escalating violence in the area.

In a press conference held today, DuPage County Sheriff James Mendrick and State’s Attorney Bob Berlin announced that Judge Joshua Dieden had denied Michael Freund’s pre-trial release, emphasizing the seriousness of the charges.

Understanding Michael Freund: Who is He?

Michael Freund, born on 21 November 1974, resides in the 3200 block of Bromley Lane in Aurora. He stands accused of committing first-degree murder against Dexter Perkins at Rosie O’Reilly’s bar in unincorporated Wheaton.

Following his arrest, Michael Freund made his first appearance in court where he was formally charged with one count of first-degree murder. The incident unfolded when an argument over a pizza and a bar tab in Glen Ellyn turned violent, involving Michael Freund and two others against Dexter Perkins. The altercation escalated to the bar’s outdoor porch, where Freund allegedly fired warning shots. Perkins approached, and Freund allegedly shot him multiple times in the torso and face, as confirmed by DuPage County officials.
