Waterbury Man Arrested After Shooting at Officer During Domestic Violence Incident

WATERBURY, Conn. – A Waterbury resident, Jermale Foster, was apprehended by authorities after firing a gun at a police officer during a heated domestic violence altercation. The incident took place at 41 Albion St. last night at approximately 8:18 p.m. following a report of a 911 hang-up.

Response to the Incident

Upon arriving at the scene, officers from the Waterbury Police Department immediately heard a loud argument between a man and a woman, quickly determining that it was a physical domestic disturbance involving a firearm. However, their attempts to enter the residence were obstructed by Foster.

Despite the obstruction, the officers managed to gain entry into the residence. A physical altercation ensued, during which Foster brandished a 40-caliber firearm and fired a shot in the direction of one of the officers before attempting to flee. Fortunately, the officer narrowly escaped the bullet, which struck a nearby wall. Investigation revealed that the firearm possessed by Foster had an illegal high-capacity magazine capable of holding 14 rounds of ammunition.

Disarming the Suspect

Following a series of determined efforts, the officers successfully disarmed Foster, discovering an additional .380 caliber firearm in his possession. Furthermore, they found 4.9 grams of cocaine, prepared for street-level sale. Another illegal high-capacity magazine was also recovered from the scene.

Injuries and Conviction

Both the officers and Foster sustained minor injuries during the physical altercation. The victim of the domestic violence incident, a 30-year-old woman, also suffered minor injuries.

Foster’s criminal record revealed that he has been a convicted felon since 2017 for carrying a pistol without a permit.

Charges and Bond

Foster is facing multiple charges, including interfering with a 911 call, assault in the third degree, threatening in the first degree, breach of peace in the second degree, carrying a pistol without a permit, criminal possession of a firearm, altering or removing identification marks from a firearm, illegal transfer-sale-delivery of a firearm, illegal possession of a large capacity magazine, unlawful discharge, interfering with police, criminal attempt at assault in the first degree, possession of narcotics with intent to sell, and assault on a police officer.

He is currently being held on a $1.5 million bond and is scheduled for court arraignment on Tuesday.
