Court Convicts Two HuJI Operatives in 2005 Shramjeevi Express Blast Case

A court in Jaunpur, Uttar Pradesh, has delivered its verdict in the 2005 Shramjeevi Express blast case, convicting two operatives of the banned group Harkat-ul-Jihad al-Islami (HuJI). The blast, which occurred near Harpalganj railway station, resulted in the death of 12 individuals and left 18 others injured.

The convicted individuals have been identified as Hilal alias Hilaluddin, a Bangladeshi citizen, and Nafikul Vishwas, a resident of West Bengal, both in their 50s. They have been found guilty of charges including murder, attempt to murder, and violations of the Explosives Act and Foreigners Act.

The judgment was delivered by Additional District and Session Judge Rajesh Kumar Rai, who had examined 43 prosecution witnesses during the trial. The court has scheduled the sentencing for January 2.

The investigation into the Shramjeevi Express blast case commenced with the arrest of two alleged HuJI operatives named Amisul and Mahibul by the Delhi Police. During interrogation, Amisul and Mahibul disclosed the involvement of several other individuals, including Hilaluddin, Nafikul Vishwas, and Mohammad Alam Giri Hussain alias Ronny. However, three other suspects, namely Mohammad Sharif alias Kanchan, Dr Sayeed, and Yahia alias Ghulam Rajdhani, are still on the run. It was revealed that Obedur Rahman alias Babu Bhai, who died in an encounter, and Yahia Khan, who was also deceased, had constructed the bomb at a residence in Khusrupur district, Bihar.
