A tragic incident took place at Karukutty on Friday when a major fire engulfed a multi-storey building, resulting in the death of a man who was trapped inside. The victim, identified as K.A. Following a post-mortem examination conducted at the Government Medical College Hospital in Kalamassery, the body of Babu was released to his grieving relatives. A solemn funeral ceremony was held later in the day at Angamaly to bid farewell to the departed soul.

Six years ago, Babu had purchased a house in Karukutty and was working as a trademark consultant. Unfortunately, on the day of the incident, he had gone to the ill-fated building for work purposes. While all the other 24 employees managed to escape the premises safely, Babu was unable to flee and got trapped inside. Two concerned colleagues attempted to rescue him but were forced to retreat due to the thick smoke. As the fire rapidly spread and intensified, they were left with no choice but to evacuate the building.

Tragically, Babu was situated in a separate cabin on the top floor, making it difficult to reach him. In the initial stages, he was able to communicate for approximately 30 minutes after the fire broke out. However, contact with him was lost thereafter. Late on Friday night, the rescue teams discovered his fully charred body.

In response to this devastating incident, a comprehensive investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the fire outbreak. A high-level team from the fire and rescue services, led by Regional Fire Officer Sujith Kumar and District Fire Officer K. Harikumar, thoroughly inspected the site. The findings will be compiled in a detailed report. Additionally, a forensic team has examined the premises, and the Electrical Inspectorate will also conduct an investigation into the incident.
