Three Civilians Found Dead in Jammu and Kashmir Following Ambush

In a tragic turn of events, three civilians from Jammu and Kashmir were discovered dead near the site of an ambush on Friday. According to the Press Trust of India (PTI), these individuals had been picked up by the Indian Army for questioning after suspected militants attacked two Army vehicles in the Poonch district on Thursday.

The Jammu and Kashmir government has acknowledged the deaths in a post on X but has not provided any explanation regarding the circumstances that led to these tragic incidents. Both the Indian Army and the Jammu and Kashmir Police have also remained silent on the matter.

The Union territory’s information and public relations department stated that “legal action in this matter has been initiated by the appropriate authority” and announced a compensation package for the deceased.

The attack on the Army on Thursday resulted in the death of four Indian soldiers, with two others sustaining injuries. The People’s Anti-Fascist Front, an offshoot of the Pakistan-based militant group Jaish-e-Mohammed, has claimed responsibility for the attack, as reported by the Hindustan Times.

According to PTI, the deceased civilians have been identified as Safeer Hussain (43), Mohammad Showket (27), and Shabir Ahmad (32). They were residents of Topa Pir village in Poonch’s Bufliaz region and were among a group of eight civilians taken into custody for questioning regarding the Poonch attack.

Following their deaths, protests erupted in the region, leading to the suspension of mobile internet services in Poonch and its adjoining district Rajouri on Saturday.

The two Army vehicles were en route from Bufliaz in the Poonch district to Thanamandi in Rajouri, where a Rashtriya Rifles unit is stationed. The route between Bufliaz and Dera Ki Gali is densely forested and runs along the boundary of the two districts.
