The arrests took place around 12:40 a.m. on Friday, December 15, when a vigilant Petaluma police officer spotted a car that had been reported stolen from Healdsburg the previous day. Acting promptly, the Petaluma police officers performed a high-risk traffic stop and successfully detained the driver, Alfonso Romero-Zuniga, a 30-year-old resident of Sonoma County, and the passenger, Juan Guzman-Santiago, a 42-year-old Sonoma County resident.

Both Romero-Zuniga and Guzman-Santiago were found to be on multiple active probations out of Sonoma County, according to Petaluma police Lt. Matthew Parnow. During the high-risk stop, a woman later identified as Susana Arias, a 33-year-old Santa Rosa resident, approached the officers and began challenging them. Arias claimed to have recently purchased the vehicle and stated that she knew Romero-Zuniga and Guzman-Santiago.

Arias, who was also discovered to be on active Sonoma County probation, was subsequently detained. Upon searching the stolen vehicle, officers found a punched ignition and multiple items suspected to be stolen property. Guzman-Santiago was later found in possession of the ignition cover.

All three suspects were booked into the Sonoma County Jail on charges of vehicle theft, possession of a stolen vehicle, and probation violation. As of now, the investigation is ongoing, and the Petaluma Police Department has yet to identify the owners of the stolen property.

These recoveries mark the third stolen vehicle found by Petaluma PD patrol officers working the night shift between December 13 and December 15. The stolen cars originated from Vallejo, San Rafael, and Healdsburg, noted the lieutenant.

According to jail records, Arias, Romero-Zuniga, and Guzman-Santiago were no longer in custody as of Friday. It remains unclear whether their arrests are connected to a separate stolen car investigation conducted by the Healdsburg Police Department.
