Before 9:30 a.m., law enforcement officers were actively searching for a suspect involved in an attempted murder case in Federal Way. The search took place near 24800 Pacific Highway South.

The Kent Police Department stated that as officers attempted to make contact with the suspect, he fled the scene.

During the pursuit, the suspect brandished a knife and threatened to attack one of the officers by raising it above his head. In response, the officers opened fire, striking the suspect.

Life-saving measures were immediately initiated by the officers on the 30-year-old male suspect, who hails from Seattle. He was subsequently transported to Harborview Medical Center in critical condition.

Fortunately, the involved officers did not sustain any injuries during the incident. As per standard protocol, both officers will be placed on administrative leave.

According to investigators, the suspect was the subject of a Department of Corrections Escape warrant. The Kent Police Department received information from the Federal Way Police Department regarding the suspect’s involvement in a violent attack on a 71-year-old man earlier in the week. The victim of that attack was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries.

The Valley Independent Investigation Team has been assigned to handle the case, ensuring a thorough and impartial examination of the incident.
