CUTLER BAY: Man Charged with Murder After Body Found in Engulfed Pickup Truck

CUTLER BAY, Fla. – A murder charge has been filed against a man in connection with the discovery of 39-year-old Igor Ernesto Ortiz’s lifeless body inside a pickup truck that was engulfed in flames in Cutler Bay on Thursday afternoon. The incident took place near the intersection of Old Cutler Road and Southwest 92nd Avenue, attracting the attention of first responders who arrived at the scene around 1:45 p.m. that day.

Authorities have identified the suspect as 35-year-old Randall Lautzenheiser, who was taken into custody shortly after the fire was extinguished. Eyewitnesses at the scene, one of whom preferred to remain anonymous, recounted the events leading up to the tragic incident.

According to the witness, “There was a heated argument between the victim and the suspect, escalating into a physical altercation before the flames erupted.” The witness added that the intensity of the confrontation was palpable, and the situation quickly spiraled out of control, resulting in the blaze.

Law enforcement officers who arrived at the scene found Lautzenheiser in the parking lot, shirtless, and with burn marks on his forearms. As stated in his arrest report, he was immediately apprehended and taken into custody. The police investigation revealed that Lautzenheiser had been seen earlier in the day sitting inside the truck with the victim, engaged in a verbal dispute.

Furthermore, surveillance footage captured Lautzenheiser visiting the Chevron gas station, where he was observed filling a small canister with fuel before returning to the victim’s truck. Moments later, another argument was overheard, followed by the vehicle becoming engulfed in flames. The same footage showed Lautzenheiser running away from the burning truck, according to police sources.

During questioning, Lautzenheiser claimed that he had visited the gas station to purchase a can of beer and gas, allegedly for the victim, while asserting that Ortiz was inside the truck smoking a cigarette when the gas can ignited accidentally, causing the fire. However, investigators remained skeptical of Lautzenheiser’s account.

On Friday, Lautzenheiser was arrested and subsequently booked into TGK, where he is currently being held without the option of bail. He now faces charges of first-degree murder and first-degree arson, reflecting the gravity of the alleged crimes committed.

The local authorities continue their investigation into the incident, working to uncover the motive behind this tragic event. The community of Cutler Bay remains in shock as they mourn the loss of Igor Ernesto Ortiz, a life tragically cut short.
