The Texas Department of Public Safety identified Laura Caroline Lynch as the victim of the head-on collision. The remaining members of the iconic band, now known as The Chicks, confirmed Lynch’s untimely passing.

Lynch was a vital member of The Dixie Chicks from 1990 until 1993. During her tenure, the band, including Lynch, released three albums. However, it was after Lynch’s departure that the group achieved global stardom with the release of their 1998 breakthrough album, “Wide Open Spaces.” The band’s lineup at that time consisted of Emily Strayer, Martie Maguire, and Natalie Maines.

The fatal crash occurred around 5:45 p.m., approximately 25 miles west of Dell City and 8 miles west of Cornudas, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety. The accident transpired when a pickup truck traveling westbound on U.S. 62 attempted to overtake another vehicle on a two-way undivided section of the highway. Tragically, the pickup truck collided head-on with Laura Caroline Lynch’s vehicle.

Emergency services pronounced Lynch dead at the scene, while the driver of the first vehicle, whose identity remains undisclosed by the Texas Department of Public Safety, sustained non-life-threatening injuries after their vehicle caught fire. They were promptly transported to an El Paso hospital for treatment.
