Fort Worth Woman and Founding Member of The Dixie Chicks killed in Head-On Collision
EL PASO, Texas (KTSM/NEXSTAR) — A tragic accident on Friday night, Dec. 22, claimed the life of a 65-year-old woman from Fort Worth, Texas. The woman has been identified as Laura Caroline Lynch, a founding member of the renowned country music group, The Dixie Chicks. The collision occurred along U.S. Highway 62 in Hudspeth County, Texas, and left another person injured.

The Texas Department of Public Safety confirmed Lynch’s death and The Chicks, as the band is now known, also issued a statement expressing their sorrow over the loss of their former bandmate.
Lynch was a member of The Dixie Chicks from 1990 to 1993. During her time with the group, they released three albums before Lynch’s departure. It was after her exit that the band achieved global fame with their 1998 album “Wide Open Spaces,” featuring the remaining members Emily Strayer, Martie Maguire, and Natalie Maines.
The fatal accident occurred at approximately 5:45 p.m., about 25 miles west of Dell City and 8 miles west of Cornudas, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety. The crash involved a pickup truck traveling westbound on U.S. 62, attempting to overtake another vehicle on a two-way undivided section of the highway. The pickup truck driven by Lynch collided head-on with the passing vehicle. Lynch was pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver of the other vehicle, whose identity remains undisclosed, suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to an El Paso hospital.
The collision prompted the closure of the highway until 1 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 23, while authorities investigated the incident. No further details about the accident have been released as the investigation is ongoing.

The Chicks took to Instagram to pay tribute to Lynch, acknowledging her significant contributions to the band’s early success. The Chicks credited Lynch’s undeniable talent for propelling them from street corner performances to stages across Texas and the mid-West.
