Former British Doubles Player Tara Moore Cleared of Anti-Doping Violation

(Reuters) – In a recent development, Tara Moore, once the top-ranked doubles player in Britain, has been exonerated of an anti-doping rule violation. The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) announced on Saturday that Moore was not at fault for the offence.

Back in June 2022, Moore faced a provisional suspension after a prohibited substance was found in a sample she provided during her participation in a WTA 250 event held in Bogota, Colombia. Unfortunately, she lost in the final of the tournament.

Upon analysis, the ITIA discovered that Moore’s “A” sample contained Nandrolone metabolites and Boldenone, both of which are listed as prohibited substances on the 2022 World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) Prohibited List.

Moore, vehemently denying any knowledge or intention of taking banned substances throughout her career, maintained her innocence throughout the investigation.

However, after careful evaluation, the ITIA concluded that the presence of the prohibited substance in Moore’s sample was a result of consuming contaminated meat. It was determined that both Moore and Barbara Gatica, a tennis player from Chile, had ingested the banned substance unknowingly in the days leading up to the sample collection.

Consequently, due to the clear evidence and understanding that Moore had no intention of cheating, no period of ineligibility was imposed on her. As a result, the provisional suspension imposed on her under the Tennis Anti-Doping Programme has been immediately lifted.

On a contrasting note, Gatica remains suspended from tennis due to separate offences committed under the Tennis Anti-Corruption Program, as confirmed by the ITIA.

This verdict brings immense relief and vindication for Tara Moore, who can now continue her professional tennis career without any blemish on her record. It serves as a testament to her integrity and dedication to the sport.
