Tyler, Texas – In a shocking incident that occurred in August, a Flint man has been arrested for allegedly shooting the mother of his children at her Tyler apartment. Xavier Keith Young, 21, was taken into custody on December 15 and has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. The victim sustained gunshot wounds to her face and leg during the incident. Young is currently being held at the Smith County Jail on a $1 million bond.

According to the arrest affidavit, the shooting took place at an apartment complex located in the 5600 block of Old Bullard Rd in Tyler. The victim informed the police that she was shot by an unknown male intruder who gained access to her apartment through the balcony sliding glass door. Startled by the intrusion, she immediately called for help.

Interestingly, Young’s sister, who happens to be friends with the victim, revealed that Young is the father of the victim’s three young children. Soon after, the victim, with blood covering her face, reached out to Young’s sister for assistance, prompting her to call 911. The sister rushed back to the apartment to help the victim. She further informed the police that Young often visits the apartment intermittently.

Police investigators reviewed surveillance footage from the area, which revealed a man being dropped off by what appeared to be a ride-share driver. An hour later, the same man was seen on video jumping over the balcony ledge and heading towards the parking lot dumpster. The officer examining the footage concluded that the man in both instances was Young, positively identifying him as the suspect in the shooting.

The victim, while being treated at the hospital, disclosed to the police that the argument leading up to the shooting had stemmed from a text message she found on Young’s phone, sent by another woman. As she finished showering, she heard a noise at her backdoor. Curious, she went to investigate, only to be met with a sudden loud bang and a sharp pain in her ear. Although she recognized that it was a man who shot her, she did not initially suspect Young as the perpetrator.

During an interview, the victim’s mother confirmed Young’s identity as the man captured on the surveillance video. She also revealed that there were prior incidents of altercations between Young and her daughter, resulting in damage to the apartment’s walls.

In addition to the charges related to the shooting, Young was also arrested for an unrelated previous charge of engaging in organized crime, as indicated by jail records.
