Two Suspects Arrested in Lakeview Double Shooting

Two individuals have been apprehended and are currently in police custody after their alleged involvement in a tragic double shooting incident that took place in the Lakeview area. The incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday morning, at approximately 3 a.m., when off-duty officers, who were providing security at a local bar in Lakeview, heard gunshots originating from the 700 block of 29th Street South, according to the Birmingham Police Department.

Investigations revealed that two men were engaged in a heated argument with another group of individuals, which escalated into a physical altercation. Subsequently, both groups resorted to firearms, resulting in a chaotic exchange of gunfire.

Upon arrival at the scene, law enforcement officers discovered two men near a food truck, both suffering from gunshot wounds. Additionally, the food truck itself and several other vehicles in the vicinity had also been struck by bullets.

Swift action was taken by the Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service, who promptly arrived at the scene and provided immediate medical assistance to one of the victims. This individual was then transported to UAB Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Tragically, the other victim, identified as 28-year-old Antonio Benson, succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Following a thorough investigation, authorities obtained arrest warrants for two suspects, Dearius Davis and Dequantez Davis, both residents of Hueytown. The execution of these warrants took place on Thursday, with the assistance of the BPD’s Crime Reduction Team and the U.S. Marshal’s Service.

In accordance with the charges filed, Dearius Davis has been charged with murder, while Dequantez Davis faces charges of aggravated assault and attempted murder.

Both suspects have been booked into the Jefferson County Jail, where they are currently being held.
