The incident came to light on October 29, when the Beaumont Police Department received a report of a dead body found in a vacant lot near Corckett Street and Avenue C. The deceased was identified as Johnny Tomlinson, a 65-year-old man. His cause of death was determined to be strangulation, leading to the case being classified as a homicide.

Upon further investigation, it was discovered that Platt had been seen at the vacant lot around the same time when individuals noticed a foul odor emanating from the area. Witnesses reported that Platt had been with Tomlinson, who usually resided in the lot with a friend. The friend had also not been seen for about a week.

The investigation took a significant turn when witnesses revealed that there had been an argument between Platt and Tomlinson over drugs shortly before the latter’s death. The following morning, Tomlinson was missing, but his bicycle remained at the lot, raising suspicions.

Police further uncovered evidence indicating Platt’s involvement in the crime. He had allegedly confronted another individual, warning them, “Do you want to end up like Johnny?” while pointing towards the area where Tomlinson’s body was later discovered.

As a result of accumulating evidence, Platt was arrested on December 3 and subsequently taken to the Jefferson County jail. He is currently being held on charges of injury to a person with a disability with the intent to cause bodily harm and murder. His bond has been set at an amount totaling $1 million.

This tragic incident has left the Beaumont community in shock and mourning. The local authorities are committed to ensuring justice for the victim, Johnny Tomlinson, and his loved ones. The case will proceed through the legal system, and further updates will be provided as the investigation unfolds.
