New Britain Man Arrested for Brandishing Stolen Gun in New London

Dec. 22—NEW LONDON — A 21-year-old man from New Britain has been taken into custody by the New London police after allegedly waving a stolen firearm during an argument in the city.

The incident took place around 2:57 p.m. in the vicinity of 40 Pearl St. According to the authorities, Johnny Figueroa-Nieves was engaged in a heated dispute with a woman when he was spotted brandishing the stolen weapon. The New London Police Department provided this information in a news release.

Upon their arrival at the scene, the police successfully recovered a 9mm pistol, which had been reported stolen from Georgia. Additionally, they found ammunition and cocaine in Figueroa-Nieves’ possession. The altercation occurred despite the presence of a protective order between the suspect and the woman involved. This order had been issued due to a previous domestic violence incident.

Johnny Figueroa-Nieves now faces multiple charges, including two counts of criminal possession of a firearm and ammunition, theft of a firearm, violation of a protective order, and possession of narcotics.

According to the state judicial website, Figueroa-Nieves had previously been convicted in Norwich Superior Court for second-degree failure to appear. He also has several ongoing criminal cases in New Britain Superior Court, where he faces charges such as risk of injury to a child, burglary, and assault.
