Man Stabbed to Death in Broad Daylight in Ganjam District
SUKANT KUMAR PANIGRAHY, a 36-year-old man and gram rojgar sevak (GRS) of Karadabadi and Sankuru panchayats in Buguda block, was brutally stabbed to death on Friday near Kalamba village in Ganjam district. The incident occurred in broad daylight, sending shockwaves throughout the area.

Sources revealed that Sukant was on his way to the block office around 11 am when a group of youths intercepted him. Upon stopping his motorcycle, one of the assailants repeatedly stabbed him with a knife. As Sukant fell, severely bleeding, the attackers attempted to smash his head with a stone. However, they fled the scene when locals harvesting paddy in nearby fields rushed to the spot in response to Sukant’s screams.
Following the attack, Sukant was immediately rushed to Buguda Community Health Centre (CHC). However, due to the severity of his injuries, he was referred to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur. Unfortunately, Sukant’s condition deteriorated during transportation, and he was taken to Polasara hospital where he was pronounced dead. Upon receiving the news, the police initiated an investigation. Pramila Panigrahy, Sukant’s mother, filed an FIR accusing a former sarpanch of orchestrating her son’s murder.
Buguda IIC Pravat Ranjan Mohanty confirmed that a murder case has been registered, and the body of the deceased has been sent for postmortem examination. He stated, “A manhunt has been launched to apprehend the killers, and we are investigating all possible angles to determine the motive behind the murder.” The gruesome incident has sparked outrage in the area, with the GRS union strongly condemning the act and demanding the immediate arrest of the culprits.
As the investigation progresses, the local community remains in shock over the brazen attack that claimed the life of Sukant Kumar Panigrahy. Authorities are determined to bring those responsible to justice and provide answers to the grieving family.
