Stafford County Police have made a significant bust, seizing stolen Apple products worth a staggering $91,413. The operation resulted in the arrest of three individuals from New York City who were involved in a retail fraud scheme spanning multiple states. The suspects, identified as Rui Lin, Sheng Chen, and Hong Liu, were apprehended at the Target store in Stafford Market Place.

According to law enforcement officials, the group had been executing their fraudulent scheme by purchasing Apple products and replacing them with cheap replicas. They would then return the counterfeit items to the store, either for a full refund or in exchange for gift cards. To make their scam more convincing, the suspects would meticulously place the replicas inside the original Apple product boxes, repackage them, and apply new security tags.

The investigation into this operation had been ongoing for some time, and authorities had been actively searching for the group. Deputies received information that the suspects were at the Target store, carrying out their usual fraudulent activities. Acting swiftly, law enforcement officers were able to apprehend one suspect after he completed a fraudulent transaction. A second suspect attempted to flee upon seeing his accomplice’s arrest but was caught at the store’s entrance. The third suspect managed to make it to the parking lot but was captured before reaching their getaway vehicle.

During the arrest, Stafford County Police seized an extensive collection of stolen Apple products from the suspects. The confiscated stash included 96 iPads, 37 AirPods, and 13 Apple Watches. Additionally, officers discovered the counterfeit products that the trio had been using to swap out the originals. These counterfeit items included 87 AirPods, 49 watch bands, 9 iPads, and 44 Series 9 Apple Watches.

The three suspects now face multiple charges, including obtaining money by false pretenses, conspiracy, possession of stolen property with intent to sell, and possession of controlled substances. They are currently being held without bond at the Rappahannock Regional Jail.
