On September 6, 2022, deputies from the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call regarding possible human remains in the vicinity of Iron Ridge Road in Galax. After conducting an investigation, law enforcement officials determined that the remains had been in the area for a significant period of time.

To aid in the identification process, the sheriff’s office sought assistance from Othram Inc., a renowned private forensic company based in Texas. Othram specializes in forensic-grade genome sequencing and forensic genetic genealogy. Through their expertise, Othram was able to obtain a complete DNA profile from the remains and compare it to potential family members.

The remains have now been positively identified as those of Logan Bowman, who was only five years old at the time of his disappearance. The news brings a sense of closure to Logan’s family, who have been awaiting answers for nearly two decades.

Logan Bowman was reported missing in January 2003. At the time, his biological mother, Cynthia Davis, and her then-boyfriend, Dennis Schermerhorn, faced charges related to his disappearance, as determined by Grayson County officials.
