Man Arrested After Robbery and Altercation at Greer’s Grocery Store in Mobile, Alabama

MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — A man was taken into custody on Monday after stealing items from a Greer’s grocery store and engaging in a physical altercation with the store manager, according to a press release from the Mobile Police Department.

Officers from the Mobile Police Department responded to a report of robbery at the Greer’s store located on Cottage Hill Road at approximately 10:30 a.m. on Monday, as stated in the MPD news release.

Incident Location

Upon arrival, officers discovered that a man had allegedly concealed store items, which was captured on surveillance footage. While using the self-checkout, the man paid for some items but deliberately neglected to pay for the hidden items, as reported by the police.

The store manager intervened and attempted to prevent the man from leaving, resulting in a physical altercation between the two parties.

The suspect, later identified as 23-year-old Ontarius Armstrong, managed to forcefully push past the manager and fled the store on foot.

Law enforcement officers located Armstrong in close proximity to the store and subsequently apprehended him. He has been charged with third-degree robbery.
