33-Year-Old Man Identified as Victim of Fatal Shooting in Santa Maria

A 33-year-old man from Santa Maria has been identified as the victim of a fatal shooting that took place on December 17th. The incident occurred during a large residential gathering on the 500 block of West Cook Street, near Curryer Street. Emergency personnel responded to a report of the shooting at around 4:30 p.m. Despite efforts to save his life, the victim, Joshua Anthony Maldonado, succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Another individual who was injured in the shooting was rushed to a local hospital and is currently in critical condition, although they are expected to survive.

Sgt. Trevor Hutton confirmed the identity of the deceased on Thursday, expressing the devastating loss suffered by Maldonado’s family and friends. To support them with funeral expenses, a GoFundMe page has been created, which has already raised over $5,100 of its $20,000 goal. The page describes Maldonado as a beloved father, brother, son, friend, and an avid Raider fan.

This shooting marks the third incident of its kind to occur at parties in the Santa Maria Valley since October. On October 14th, officers were dispatched to the 1300 block of Yale Place in response to a shooting at a residence. An adult male was seriously injured and transported to the hospital, while two other victims, an adult male and an adult female, sought treatment for less severe injuries related to the incident. Oscar Erik Jimenez Ruiz, a 27-year-old from Santa Maria, was later arrested in connection with the shootings.

On October 21st, officers responded to multiple shots fired on the 1000 block of North School Street. Prior to the shooting, an altercation took place, resulting in the death of Arthur Pichardo, a 20-year-old, and non-life-threatening gunshot wounds to a juvenile and two adults. Police have yet to announce any arrests in connection with this particular incident.
