Andrews County Deputies took action by deploying spike strips on SH 115, around 14 miles east of Andrews, in an attempt to stop the suspect. However, the suspect skillfully evaded the spikes and dangerously swerved into oncoming traffic. Despite almost hitting law enforcement vehicles, the suspect managed to avoid the spikes once again. However, luck was not on their side.

As the pursuit continued, the suspect’s vehicle collided with an Andrews County Constable’s patrol vehicle, causing them to lose control. The chase ultimately came to an end when the suspect crashed into a utility pole in the 1500 block of SH 176, located east of the Andrews City limits, as stated in the release.

Following the collision, law enforcement swiftly took the suspect, identified as 28-year-old Jose Luis Viera, Jr. from Portales, New Mexico, into custody without any further incident. Although the suspect sustained minor injuries, they were transported to Permian Regional Medical Center for medical evaluation. Subsequently, the suspect was transferred to the Andrews County Jail, where they now face charges of Evading Arrest in a motor vehicle, Reckless Driving, and Criminal Mischief. Additionally, the suspect has multiple outstanding arrest warrants from New Mexico, indicating a history of criminal activity. Further charges are currently pending against them.
