The Palm Bay Police Department’s Official Statement on the Christmas Day Compound Killings:

PALM BAY, FLORIDA – Good afternoon. I am here today to provide a significant update on the ongoing murder investigation that took place nearly one year ago in the area commonly referred to as the Compound. Thanks to the relentless efforts of our dedicated detectives and the unwavering collaboration with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies, we have made a breakthrough in this case. We have arrested 18-year-old Jamarcus Simpson (DOB 6/3/2005) in connection with the brutal murders of Jeremiah Brown and Travon Anthony, which occurred on Christmas Day last year. Simpson was apprehended at the St. Johns County Jail facility, where he was already being held for unrelated charges. He is now facing two counts of First Degree Premeditated Murder.

This harrowing homicide investigation was initiated when the Palm Bay Police Officers promptly responded to the distressing incident in the vicinity of Camillo Cir SW at approximately 8:30 p.m. on Christmas Day last year. Our Communications Center received an emergency 911 call, reporting the discovery of a deceased victim on the side of the road. Upon arrival at the scene, our officers were confronted with the tragic reality of two victims who had tragically lost their lives due to apparent gunshot wounds. These victims were later identified as Jeremiah Brown and Travon Anthony.

While the motive behind these heinous acts remains under investigation, what remains clear is that our two teenage victims were subjected to a merciless execution, their lifeless bodies left abandoned in an open field on Christmas Night, which also happened to mark Travon’s 16th birthday. Jamarcus Simpson is an individual devoid of humanity, callously leaving our innocent victims to perish alone and forsaken in a desolate location, ensuring their families and loved ones would never find them. The families of these victims will never experience the joy of spending another holiday together, celebrating birthdays, or hearing the laughter of their children, all due to the senseless and malevolent actions of Simpson.

It is unfortunate that certain media outlets initially disseminated unsubstantiated information pertaining to this case. As your Police Chief, I want to assure you that our detectives have spared no effort in investigating every lead in relation to these murders. They have dedicated countless hours of work to ensure that those responsible for this unfathomable tragedy will be held accountable and face the full extent of the law. Throughout the past year, our department has maintained open lines of communication with the grieving families of our victims.
