Athens-Clarke Police and Coroner’s Office Seek Information on Woman Killed in Atlanta Highway Accident

Athens-Clarke police and the coroner’s office are appealing to the public for information regarding a tragic incident that took place on Wednesday. A woman, identified as Cleo Catherine Wallace, aged 44, lost her life after being struck by a vehicle on Atlanta Highway. In their efforts to investigate the case, authorities have encountered difficulties in locating a current residence for Wallace.

Athens-Clarke County Coroner Sonny Wilson disclosed on Friday that the deceased had previously resided in the Stonehenge subdivision, which is in close proximity to the accident site. Additionally, Wallace had lived in Bethlehem, and her relatives are based in Toledo, Ohio, according to the coroner’s records. However, it remains unclear whether she was homeless at the time of the incident or had another residence.

The tragic accident unfolded shortly before 7 p.m. on the 4700 block of Atlanta Highway, as reported by the police. Upon arrival at the scene, an Athens-Clarke police officer promptly administered first aid to Wallace, who was found lying in the highway. Despite the officer’s efforts, she succumbed to her injuries and tragically passed away.

According to the police, Wallace was walking east in the left lane when she was struck by a 1999 Honda Passport driven by a 20-year-old male. Authorities are also interested in speaking to the driver of a white pickup truck that was observed in the vicinity and had passed the woman before the unfortunate collision occurred.
