Fairfield Police Department Takes Two Offenders off the Streets in Recent Illegal Firearms Busts

Last week, the Fairfield Police Department intensified its efforts to combat the prevalence of illegal firearms by apprehending two individuals during routine traffic stops. The initiatives are part of the department’s ongoing commitment to ensuring public safety and reducing gun-related crimes.

First Arrest: Marcel McCarther

On December 14, at approximately 9:30 p.m., a Fairfield PD officer conducted a vehicle enforcement stop on Fairfield Ave., specifically in the 2300 block. While engaging with the driver, the officer also made contact with the front passenger, identified as 22-year-old Marcel McCarther.

During their interaction, the officer developed reasonable grounds to suspect illicit activity and proceeded to conduct a thorough search of the vehicle. The search yielded a loaded handgun underneath the front passenger’s seat, leading to the immediate arrest of McCarther on suspicion of gun-related charges.

Second Arrest: Rory White and Latonya Jenkins

On December 15, a Fairfield PD officer initiated an enforcement stop at the intersection of Gateway Boulevard and Travis Boulevard. The officer promptly identified the driver as 63-year-old Rory White, while the passenger was identified as 44-year-old Latonya Jenkins.

Upon conducting a records check, authorities discovered that White had an outstanding warrant. Subsequently, a thorough search of the vehicle was executed, during which officers located a backpack on the front passenger’s floorboard—where Jenkins was seated.

As Jenkins possessed a felony record, her association with firearms raised immediate concerns. Consequently, she was arrested on suspicion of carrying a concealed weapon, being a felon in possession of a firearm, and possession of a controlled substance.

White, on the other hand, was cited for his outstanding warrant and subsequently released, as stated by officials.
