Tragedy Strikes Charles University in Prague: Student Kills 14 People

PRAGUE (PIX11) — The peaceful atmosphere of Charles University in Prague was shattered by a horrifying incident that unfolded on Thursday. A history student, identified as 24-year-old David Kozak, went on a shooting spree, killing 14 people and leaving 25 others wounded. In a shocking turn of events, body cam footage released by the Czech Republic police captured the intense response to the emergency.

The video showed SWAT teams loading high-capacity magazines with bullets as they prepared to confront the shooter. With sirens blaring in the background, the police rushed into the philosophy department building, located near a popular tourist spot, the town square.

According to police reports, Kozak, armed with an automatic weapon, was shooting from a fourth-floor balcony. The motive behind the attack remains unknown, but authorities have revealed that Kozak’s father was found dead earlier on the same day. Additionally, Kozak has been linked to the murders of a father and baby in Prague the week prior.

In the harrowing footage, police officers can be seen storming the university building, shouting orders as they searched for the shooter. Eventually, they discovered Kozak’s lifeless body on the fourth-floor balcony. It remains unclear whether Kozak took his own life or was killed by a police bullet.

Prague Police Chief, in a press conference, stated that Kozak had suffered catastrophic injuries. The shooting resulted in a devastating toll, with 14 lives lost and 25 people injured by gunfire.

The video also captured the heroic actions of the police officers, who broke down barricaded doors to rescue terrified students trapped inside classrooms. In one particularly poignant scene, a first responder was seen rushing a wounded woman to safety on a gurney, while she moaned in pain.

This tragic incident marks the deadliest mass shooting in the history of the Czech Republic, leaving the nation in shock and mourning. Mayor of Prague, Bohuslav Svoboda, expressed his dismay, stating, “We always thought that this was a thing that did not concern us. Now it turns out that, unfortunately, our world is also changing, and the problem of the individual shooter is emerging here as well.”
