The incident took place on November 25, when Manuel De Jesus Ochoa Portillo, 37, who was working as a supervisor for a drywall crew at a home under construction, was attacked and fatally stabbed. The authorities responded to a 911 call reporting the stabbing at 9241 Rock Harbour Way in the Easthaven development. Upon arrival, they discovered blood throughout the first floor of the home. A co-worker of Ochoa’s informed detectives that he had heard a scream while working upstairs. He witnessed Ochoa in the street, clutching his left side.

First responders quickly attended to Ochoa, who had sustained multiple stab wounds to his upper body. Tragically, he succumbed to his injuries shortly after being transported to Tampa General Hospital. The following day, Ja’Quan Javontae Glymp, 34, was apprehended on charges including first-degree murder during a robbery. Glymp’s arrest was based on video surveillance footage that showed a dark-colored Mercedes backing into a nearby driveway just minutes before the 911 call. The video revealed that Glymp, wearing an orange work vest, a hard hat, and a white face mask, emerged from the car along with another individual, also dressed similarly.

Further evidence linking Glymp to the crime was found at the construction site where Ochoa was attacked. Detectives discovered white face masks and two hard hats, one white and one blue, in the garage. Both hard hats and the masks were found to have traces of blood upon testing. Additionally, Glymp’s fingerprint was identified on the white hard hat. During the traffic stop, Glymp’s girlfriend, who was present in the Mercedes, overheard the second suspect, later identified as Carter-Bowick, confess to stabbing someone and expressing frustration at the victim’s unwillingness to remain still. The girlfriend also noted that Carter-Bowick had blood on his hands and clothing.

Carter-Bowick is currently being held at the Cumberland County Detention Center in Fayetteville. The arrest brings a sense of closure to the grieving family of Manuel De Jesus Ochoa Portillo. Hillsborough Sheriff Chad Chronister expressed his satisfaction with the progress made in the case, stating, “With the arrest of the second suspect in this homicide case, we can offer this grieving family the closure they deserve.”
